How We Got Here

Hi! My name is Kenly Cifers, co-owner of Old Dominion Honeybee Services. If you have a minute, I'd love to tell you how we became the go-to for humane bee removal.

My grandfather and two of my uncles kept bees, so I guess you could say it runs in the family. However, bees or beekeeping never piqued my interest until 2016 when I started watching beekeeping videos on YouTube. As fate would have it, a few weeks into my newfound interest, a family member found that she had honeybees in her shed. What could be better than "free bees", right?

Oh, boy! I was in for quite the introduction — but by the time I was done with the removal, I had a beehive and an absolute fire burning inside. To say I was obsessed would be an understatement. Over the next year, I partnered with local pest control companies to provide a humane bee removal solution for their customers. I also had a friend, Elisha, help me with the removals. From there, Old Dominion Honeybee Services grew to become way more than we could handle. We were receiving calls from all over Virginia and Maryland.

After a poorly planned AdWords campaign, we started getting calls from California, Texas, Washington, and a few more states scattered throughout the U.S. Obviously, we couldn't do any of those — but we knew we could help those customers find a local solution. Things were crazy, but we decided to roll with it. We found local removers for every customer, even those that were across the country.

Today, my wife, Destiny, and I help find high-quality removal experts for anyone who calls or messages us. We are very passionate about honeybees and the importance of keeping them safe and healthy. The pest control companies and removal specialists we work with are amazing people and we could not be prouder to work alongside them.
